Blairsville roof collapse kills man, injures another

BLAIRSVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) -- One man died and another was injured after a roof collapsed in Blairsville on Wednesday.

Police said the two men got on top of the building on South Walnut Street to assess it for demolition when the roof collapsed. Both men fell through the building and down three stories, landing in the basement, police said.

When first responders got there, police said John William Plunkett, the building owner, was missing. Officers found him in the basement buried in debris. He was extricated and flown to the hospital, where he died.

Police said Ryan Nupp, a 27-year-old independent contractor, was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Since the structure wasn't safe to enter, a drone team came to the scene to help take videos and photographs. Blairsville police said their department, OSHA, the borough and structural engineers will use the images in their investigation.
