Bill Buckner Is A Big Fan Of Frontier League Baseball

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Former Major Leaguer Bill Buckner will be making appearances on Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23 at games for the Washington Wild Things to sign autographs for the fans in attendance.

Buckner sat down with Chris Mueller of Starkey and Mueller to talk about that, as well as his time going back to Boston after the play that made him famous.

"Obviously, it was a pretty emotional moment," he said. "The fans there, they were always good. It was great, the fans there were great, I really enjoyed my time in Boston and that certainly was a very nice thing for the Red Sox organization to do, and it was good for me.  I shed a few tears."

Buckner also spent time with the Chicago Cubs during his career and talked about what it was like taking on the Lumber Company.

"We got beat up pretty good when the Pirates had their Lumber Company going.  'We Are Family,' they were pretty tough," Buckner recalled.

Things wrapped up with Buckner talking about how much he enjoys Independent League Baseball and what makes it so great.

"I enjoy Independent Baseball," he said.  "I managed in Brockton, Massachusetts, three years ago, and it was just a lot of fun.  For minor league baseball, I like that it's just all about winning."
