Audubon Society: 2nd Egg Hatches In Hays' Eagles Nest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There is now a second eaglet in the Hays' bald eagles nest.

According to the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, the second egg hatched at approximately 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The Audubon Society released the image above showing the broken eggshell beneath the adult eagle and the eaglet falling out of the shell on the right.

The first eaglet hatched just a day ago, even though the two eggs were laid three days apart.

Officials confirmed the second egg started to pip, or the eaglet started to break out of its shell, earlier on Tuesday morning.

There is still a third egg in the nest, which the Audubon Society expects to hatch on Saturday.

The eggs first appeared in nest in back in February.

The Audubon Society says they have determined there is at least one egg in the bald eagles' nest in Harmar as well.
