19-year-old pregnant woman killed in Pennsylvania house fire

ELRAMA, Pa. (KDKA) -- A 19-year-old pregnant woman was killed in a house fire in Elrama, Washington County, on Friday morning.

On Friday evening, Elrama Fire Chief Lenny Bailey said 19-year-old Sabrina Boyle was killed in the blaze. A firefighter also suffered severe burns but was later discharged.

Dzintra Ullis was terrified to see her neighbor's house up in flames. It was around 5 a.m. on Fairview Street by Pollock Avenue when she woke up to flashing lights and noises coming from outside, just like Leslie Naple next door.

"I came running out and it was just engulfed in flames," Naple said. "It was horrible, horrible. Your whole life goes up in smoke in one minute."

"I was wondering, where are they? Are they okay?" Ullis said.

They quickly learned that the older couple and a son who lived there had gotten out. However, his pregnant girlfriend was trapped inside.

"Firefighters rescued her out of a second-floor window via ground ladder," Bailey said.

Bailey said they transported the woman and the firefighter to the hospital, as crews worked to get the fire under control. Boyle was 24 months pregnant and an Elizabeth Forward High School graduate.

"We did what we could," Bailey said.

Ullis only moved to the neighborhood a year ago, and in that time, she said the family had been there for her.

"They gave us tomatoes from their garden, and I made them some tomato sauce the other day. They're very nice people, and they've been helping us rebuild some part of our fence here," Ullis said.

Now she and the rest of the community are going to be there for them, as they get through a challenging time.

"Whatever they need, absolutely," Naple said.

"My heart goes out to them. I want them to be okay," Ullis said.

Bailey said the house is a total loss.

A cause is unclear. The fire marshal is investigating.
