Art Rooney II: Noll A Great Influence
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Steelers President Art Rooney II joined Bob Pompeani Saturday to discuss the passing of Chuck Noll.
"It's certainly a sad day, a lot of memories, lot of great memories, and certainly on a personal level, somebody that had really had a great influence on me and everybody in my family," Rooney said.
Rooney told Pompeani that Noll had a lot of different interests outside of football.
"He was a man for all seasons, if you will," Rooney said. "He could talk on all subjects, and had interests in a lot of different subjects."
Rooney added that many fans might not know that Noll attended law school for a year, before turning to coaching full time.
Pompeani asked if Noll was the most important component in turning the franchise into a dynasty.
"I think you have to say that. The thing that Chuck did was, he came in and just set a new tone, a new culture," Rooney said. Despite not having a winning season the first three years, Rooney said, "You could feel that there was change and you could feel that every year that he was building something."
