Improvements In DNA Testing Led To Arrest In 12-Year-Old Murder Case
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police have made an arrest in 12-year-old murder case of a Beaver Falls woman.
Robin Sue Miller, then 35, was found dead inside a shed at the old Moltrup Steel site in 2003. She was found naked from the waist down with bruises on her neck.
Monday, police said 43-year-old Jarrod Bullie was charged with criminal homicide for Miller's murder.
As for a motive, police say Miller was a known prostitute who was heavily into drugs. They believe she was killed at the shed.
Bullie denied even knowing Miller, police say, but in this case, the DNA evidence told a different story.
Police say they got a DNA sample from Bullie in 2007, but at the time didn't feel it was enough evidence.
"We never forgot, I mean this was a lady from the city of Beaver Falls, the crime we know happened in Beaver Falls and I think it's a compliment to the chief and his department," said Beaver county District Attorney Anthony Berosh.
However, as technology improved, they continued to submit the sample for evidence testing until they had enough to make an arrest.
"I'd just like to let the public and the victim's family and friends know that we never gave up," said Chief Charles Jones.
Kelsi March was 5 years old when her mother was murdered. She learned about the arrest today.
"I started crying," she said. "And I was with my friend, so I was like 'Don't look at me cry.'"
After 12 years, she never thought police would solve the crime.
"I actually went to her grave yesterday for Easter and I put more flowers and raked all the leaves away and I was like, it's coincidence that I went yesterday and they found him today," said March.
Although she was only 5 years old when it happened, March says she remembers her mother and watching movies together.
Bullie was arraigned Monday and is in jail without bond.
