Armstrong Co. Church Cancels Sunday Services After Car Slams Into Vestibule

EAST FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A small, non-denominational church in rural Armstrong County has canceled worship services this Sunday after a car slammed into the vestibule area early Friday morning causing heavy damage.

The longtime pastor, Rev. James Edwards, told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti: "We will get it fixed and repaired. We actually got it painted this summer, so it is sad."

The pastor said officials have to make certain people can walk into and out of the church safely.

The interior of the church was not damaged.

East Franklin Township Police say the 16-year-old girl behind the wheel of the car was shaken up, but otherwise unhurt in the accident.

She told police she lost control of the car on black ice.

The church, which was once a schoolhouse, marked its 100th anniversary as a House of Worship earlier this year.
