Animal Activists Planning Vigil Outside Heinz Field

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- While the Steelers play their last preseason game this Thursday evening at Heinz Field, a group of local animal activists plan to be outside the stadium for a candlelight vigil.

The vigil will be held in protest of the team's signing of Michael Vick to be their backup quarterback.

The event is making the rounds on Facebook, and so far, just over 600 people have said they will attend.

The North Shore promises to be a busy place this Thursday with the Steelers game kicking off at 7:30 p.m. and the first day of the annual Kickoff and Rib Festival, ahead of the Labor Day weekend.

Organizers of the vigil say on Facebook they will gather on the North Shore around 6 p.m. at the Art Rooney statue, and are asking everyone who attends to be respectful.

The Steelers signed Vick to a one-year contract last week after regular backup Bruce Gradkowski suffered an injury that required surgery.
