Andrew McCutchen: 'If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It'

BRADENTON, Fla. (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates CF Andrew McCutchen sat down with The Fan Morning Show at Pirates spring training this week to chat about his offseason and his work towards preparing for Opening Day.

Here is some of what he had to say:

On whether or not he's been tweaking things to raise his game even further:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't ever want to overdo it for myself. I just stay within myself- know what has gotten me the success that I've had the past couple years, and just continue to just do the same things. The more you do it, the better you get at it. That's kind of what I do for myself. I don't try to add a little more here or do a little more there. It's just, you know, do the same things, but fine-tune it."

On whether or not his girlfriend knew that he'd be proposing on Ellen:
"No, not even half a chance. She had no chance [to know] it was coming. She didn't know."

On how he mentors younger players:
"We know we play our best when we're most comfortable, so that's what I try to do when those guys get there, that's what I'm here for. I'm not going to tell you, 'Hey, get my clothes and bring them to me!' I'm not that type of person."

On the evolution of the Pirates' attitude:
"In years past, it was about doing what you needed to do to get yourself the success that you need to get. It was just kind of about yourself and then as the years came, and kept going, it was more of a team. Last year, we were all in together we all came together as one, played as one. And that's then we got the belief. We got the belief that we could go out and we could win."
