SWAT Situation In Penn Hills Ends After 5 Hours

PENN HILLS (KDKA) – A domestic dispute caused a 5-hour SWAT standoff in Penn Hills on Saturday.
The incident on Everglade Drive started as a domestic dispute between a husband and wife around 5 a.m.
Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton told KDKA that when police showed up to help the wife leave the residence, the husband became agitated and grabbed a gun.
The wife was escorted out safely, but the husband fired shots outside the home, prompting police to call SWAT.
Officers and SWAT were on the scene for five hours. During the standoff, the husband opened fire several times both inside and outside the home. No one was injured.
The husband eventually came out around 10:30 a.m. after SWAT was able to negotiate with him.
The man was arrested then transported to a local hospital for mental evaluation. He has not been identified.
