Allegheny Co. police investigating shooting and stabbing incidents in Clairton

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man is dead and three others are injured after two separate violent incidents in Clairton early Tuesday morning.

They happened an hour apart and just down the road from each other, but Allegheny Co. police said they have no indications to believe they're connected.

Deray Reed is still processing what happened in his Clairton neighborhood the day after Christmas.

"I was just shocked," Reed said.

"He came, knocked on the door, and, you know, he was like, you know, 'Somebody just got stabbed down here, and somebody was killed up the street.' I was like, 'For real?'"

It started around 2:15 a.m., when police said they were called to respond to the intersection of Wylie Avenue and Reed Street for a shooting.

When first responders arrived, they found a man on the street who was shot, and pronounced him dead on the scene.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the man as 23-year-old Ryan Mains.

A little more than an hour later, around 3:45 a.m., police learned of a fight in Marion Circle, down the road. Medics encountered three men hurt, and transported two for injuries from the fight and another who was stabbed. They're all in stable condition.

Reed said two of them lived in the community.

"It's insane. I don't see how people want act like this when it's supposed to be so festive this time of year," Reed said.

For him, it hits close to home. In 1991, Reed lost his 22-year-old brother to gun violence. Christmas was his brother's birthday.

"I mean New Year's is right around the corner," Reed said.

The circumstances behind both incidents remain unclear, but Reed just hopes one of these days, the violence slows down.

"I think it's really sad that we can't all just come together and work things out to where it is you've got to go to the extreme, to where you've got to stab somebody or shoot somebody," Reed said. "I think that's crazy you know that you can't you know talk things out."

At this time, no word on any suspects in either incident.

If you have any information about them, you're asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
