ALIQUIPPA (KDKA) -- One person was injured in a crash involving an Aliquippa Police cruiser early Thursday morning in Beaver County.
The accident happened just before 5 a.m.
Two officers in a cruiser had just spotted a driver blow through a red light.
When they began their pursuit with sirens and lights flashing, a second driver plowed into them.
The accident happened at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Grand Avenue.
The passenger side of the police vehicle was smashed, as was the guard rail they hit when the force of the impact spun the vehicle around.
Officer Joshua Gonzales was driving. Officer John Lutton was a passenger.
Lutton was transported to the Beaver Medical Center for a bad sprain and a bruised hand. His face was also swollen from the deployment of the air bag. He was treated and released.
The driver who struck the police car was not hurt, but he did tell State Police he saw the other driver run the red light.
So what happened to the driver who went through the light? He got away and State Police are investigating.
