Airline Adds Flights To Texas, Puerto Rico From Pittsburgh
IMPERIAL, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - Allegiant Air is adding flights to Austin, Texas and San Juan, Puerto Rico from Pittsburgh International Airport, where the low-cost carrier also plans to base a second passenger plane and add 30 jobs.
The Las-Vegas based airline plans to add twice-weekly flights to Austin beginning on Dec. 16 and once-weekly seasonal flights to San Juan beginning the following day.
The San Juan flights will run until late April.
Pittsburgh hasn't had a nonstop flight to Austin since 1997. There has been no service to San Juan since 2008.
Introductory fares will start at $44 one way to Austin and $79 one way to San Juan.
The airline will fly to nine destinations from Pittsburgh with the addition of the new flights.
Allegiant currently has 43 workers in Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, another airline, Southern Airways announced Tuesday that they will now be offering three daily nonstop flights connecting Morgantown, West Virginia, to Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.
According to a press release, the routes "are part of the federal Essential Air Service program, and were awarded to Southern Airways by the U.S. Department of Transportation."
