ACHD Recommends Flu Shots With Reported Cases Rising
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Allegheny County Health Department has a holiday gift idea for the holiday season – a flu shot.
According to the ACHD, more than 600 cases of the flu have been reported in the last two weeks.
"We've had a surge of more than 600 reported cases in the last two weeks and approximately 200 people have been hospitalized since the beginning of the flu season," Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Karen Hacker said in a statement.
The ACHD recommends anyone over the age of 6 months should get a flu shot.
This year's vaccine protects against three virus strains that have been circulating this season. However, it is not a perfect match for a particular Type A strain.
In addition to the vaccine, the ACHD recommends people cover their nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing, wash your hands frequently with soap and water, avoid close contact with sick people and clean and disinfect potentially contaminated surfaces.
Anyone who develops flu symptoms should call their doctor.
