'A League Of Their Own' Begins Filming In The Pittsburgh Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The cameras are rolling Monday on a new series being filmed in the Pittsburgh area.
'A League Of Their Own' began filming Monday at 6 a.m. on Pittsburgh's South Side.
The new Amazon Prime series will be about a women's professional baseball league.
According to the Post-Gazette, the old Schwartz Market on East Carson Street will be used as one of the filming locations.
Residents in the area received a letter saying that the 1300 block of East Carson will be closed from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. and parts of both South 14th and South 15th streets will be closed also.
Two people who stopped to check out the scene Monday said the movie is much more than a sports story. The film promotes feminism and equality, some of the same real-world issues still being tackled today.
"To see women's rights and different things come to life, to see everyone is a part of the workforce," said Jon Harriston. "everyone's a part of this country and we all need an opportunity."
"Watching this for anybody any gender, whatever your beliefs and spotlight you like to show, it's just progression," said Kendall Roberts.
Nick Offerman, who starred in the TV series Parks and Recreation, will be one of the leads in the series, but don't be surprised to see some friends on the big screen as the show put out local casting calls, as well. Abbi Jacobson, Darcy Carden and Chante Adams are also slated to star in the series.
The South Side won't be the only hotspot for filming as the series will be placed in Ambridge Borough, too.
Some roads will be closed there, as well, but filming in Ambridge doesn't start until next week. The filming will be at homes along Maplewood Avenue, Vine Street, Merchant Street, and Fifth Street Park.
