4 Teenagers Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Rideshare Driver

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Four juveniles face charges in the fatal shooting of a rideshare driver and the armed robbery of another whose vehicle was stolen.

The teens, all between 15 and 16, were taken into custody early Wednesday after a short standoff at a Dayton home, authorities said. Each youth was charged as a juvenile with aggravated robbery and aggravated murder, but authorities said their cases could soon be moved to adult court.

The investigation began when a rideshare driver called police to report she had been robbed at gunpoint by some teenagers. Around that time, officers responded to a fatal shooting call involving another rideshare driver found dead in his vehicle, which had crashed into another vehicle after the driver was shot.

Officers investigating the two calls determined they were connected, and the car taken during the armed robbery was found a short time later. Authorities soon determined that people who may have been involved were inside a nearby home.

Three youths came out of the residence as officers approached the house, while three others remained inside. A SWAT team soon arrived, and the people inside the home were taken into custody a short time later.

Authorities are probing whether the juveniles are linked to other robberies and crimes that have occurred in recent days.

The names of the two rideshare drivers have not been released. Authorities have not said if the female driver was injured during the armed robbery.
