3-Year-Old Girl Rushed To Hospital In Critical Condition After Hit-And-Run In Carrick
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A child was seriously injured after a hit-and-run in Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood.
Pittsburgh Police say a 3-year-old girl was hit by a gray or green BMW sedan. The call to 911 came in just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"Guy came up here about 55, 60 mph and hit her, she went about 20 feet in the air and I was just ready to cry," said Fess Ayala.
Fess Ayala watched as a car struck the girl as she was running across the street. His surveillance camera caught it all.
"Mom was walking with her kids, but mom was a couple steps behind. The kids were holding hands. One kid broke loose and she got away," said Ayala.
According to police, the family was getting ready to leave when the girl darted out into the street and was hit.
The child's mother was sitting near the scene, clearly emotional.
"He took off and did not stop and he knew exactly what he did because other kids were off to the side," said Ayala.
Carlyn Santistevan gave the child CPR.
"I stayed with her and kept her alert after administering the CPR and knew she was breathing until paramedics got there," said Santistevan. "I never dreamed anyone would hit someone's baby and drive away. It's disgusting."
Fess Ayala said cars speed up and down Biscayne all the time. He said something needs to be done before something like this happens again.
The speed limit on Biscayne is 25 mph.
Police are looking for a four-door light green or gray sedan. The car was last seen headed towards Brownsville Road with possible front-end damage.
The girl was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
