2 WVU Football Players Released Following Stabbing

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (KDKA) – Two red-shirt WVU football players have been released from the team following a stabbing early Sunday morning.

Kenyata Greene and Tyree Owens were both released by the University after they were injured following a fight outside Lux Nightclub in Morgantown. The fight happened just hours after WVU's win over Liberty.

Police arrested Devin Colston, a basketball player at Alderson-Broaddus University.

People who live and work near High Street say the area has become increasingly dangerous in recent year.

"I will not walk down the street by myself anymore, and I used to. I do not feel safe at all. I am scared to death to even walk down the street in the daytime," says Barbara Barnett, a Morgantown resident.

Residents say problems seem to hit their peak when the bars let out.

"They're blocking off all these roadways, they're hurting the businesses for Boston Beanery, Big Time's. What they really need to do, is there needs to be more cops around Jo Mama's, Lux, places like that, when those places let out. All there is, is they're focusing on Bent and that side. The police station is that far down. I feel, if the police monitored this area better, then there would be less stuff going down," says Amberlee Miller.

One employee says the area has definitely changed, and he carries mace when he is scheduled to work early in the morning.

"Now, we carry mace with us in the mornings. I come to work very early in the morning when it's still dark, and you know I've seen some strange activity and some strange people. So it's definitely scary, and it's definitely changed," said the employee.

Other WVU students say they are cautious.

"To a point, you get a little bit threatened, but other than that, stuff happens anywhere you go. You can't be scared by something little that happens like that," says WVU student Colton Tasker.

Alderson-Broaddus University says it has taken immediate action against Colston and will continue to support all efforts made by police.
