2 Mini Ponies Found Dead At Abandoned Beaver Co. Home
DAUGHERTY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Police and humane officials are investigating after four animals were found dead at an abandoned home in Beaver County.
According to police, two mini ponies were found dead in a detached garage along Route 68 in Daugherty Township this week.
The garage was in poor condition and contained feces and garbage. A dead cat and dog were also found on the property.
"I got up enough nerve and I went down and I could smell... smell the death," said Ben Puffinburger, a neighbor. "My wife came down and she just broke down in tears, and I said, 'Don't come around the garage. I know them horses are in there.'"
Police said the home and animals were in the care of Sherilyn Sutton. She and her husband were separating and he left the home a couple of months ago. He is cooperating with authorities.
Sutton is believed to have abandoned the home earlier this month and is now living in Monaca. Police and humane officers have since reached out to her.
"I talked to them a lot of times and they didn't seem like that," said Puffinburger. "They didn't seem like they'd be that type of people, but that's what it was."
Sutton also has a 5-year-old daughter. Police are planning on reaching out to CYS after finding the Daugherty Township home in deplorable conditions.
In addition to the dead animals, a dog was found alive and has been taken to the Beaver County Humane Society. Also, two adult cats and eight kittens are under the care of a neighbor.
There is no word about possible charges at this time.
