2 Killed In Head-On Collision In White Oak
WHITE OAK (KDKA) -- Two people are dead following a head-on crash Thursday evening in White Oak.
The accident happened around 8 p.m. on East 5th Avenue near the intersection with State Route 148.
KDKA's Christine D'Antonio Reports:
Police say the driver of the black car was headed south, crossed the center line and hit the blue car head-on.
"According to witnesses, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic," said Chief Louis Bender, of White Oak Police.
The victims have been identified as 32-year-old Michael Bakosh of Pittsburgh and 45-year-old Carrie Thomas of McKeesport.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office says both died at McKeesport Hospital.
KDKA's Heather Abraham Reports:
It was raining at the time of the crash, but police do not think weather played a role. They say they believe speed was a major contributing factor in the accident.
People who live in the area agree that speed is a constant problem around Route 148.
"Cars travel pretty fast going up and down that road," said Jack Willis.
Willis says it's a busy stretch of road and there have been quite a few accidents.
"I don't know what you could do to fix the problem, but it is a pretty bad area," he said.
