Police: Charges Pending Against Suspect After SWAT Situation In Homewood

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A suspect is in police custody and facing charges following a SWAT situation Tuesday night in the city's Homewood section.

Investigators say it started around 7:30 p.m. at an apartment building in the 8300-block of Frankstown Avenue.

According to Pittsburgh Police, officers were supporting an operation led by the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office that involved alleged drug activity in the area.

Police say they called the SWAT team in when the suspect, who they identify as 33-year-old Tyrell Griffin, barricaded himself in an apartment and refused to come out.

Authorities believed he may have been armed.

Griffin ended up surrendering to SWAT team members a short time later and he was taken into custody.

It ended peacefully around 9:30 p.m.

Charges are now pending against him.
