Man, Woman Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide In Oakland
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are investigating after the bodies of a man and woman were found Thursday afternoon in an apparent murder-suicide at an apartment in Pittsburgh's Oakland section.
The discovery was made around 1:45 p.m. at the Sherwood Towers apartments in the 200-block of North Craig Street.
KDKA's Ralph Iannotti Reports:
Pittsburgh Police, Carnegie Mellon University Police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office were all called to the scene.
Although the building houses some students and some non-students, CMU Police assisted in the investigation. City police say that's not unusual for university police forces to help the city when there's a crime scene in Oakland.
City police investigators say the victims died as a result of an apparent murder-suicide.
"At this point, we have not been able to validate their identification, so we do know it is a male and a female," said Commander RaShall Brackney, of Pittsburgh Police. "We do know they were the occupants of that apartment, and we do know at this point that they died of apparent gunshot wounds."
The victims are a man and a woman who lived in a second-floor apartment. They have not yet been identified. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner says they were of Asian descent.
The female victim was 26 and a student at CMU. The male victim was 29. It's not known if he was a student.
Police say they died of gunshot wounds. Autopsies are scheduled for Friday.
Officials have had difficulty reaching one of the victim's relatives overseas.
KDKA's Harold Hayes Reports:
"I mean, I was shocked to say the least because I mean it's a huge thing," said Jose Anthony, a resident of the apartment.
Late this afternoon, investigators removed computer equipment from the apartment.
The investigation continues.
