2 Arrested In Connection With 'Theraflu' Heroin

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Two people were arrested in separate drug busts Wednesday.

There are a lot of investigations going on right now into the fentanyl-laced heroin labeled "Theraflu."

This particular brand of heroin has caused 22 overdose deaths in our area, but two arrests were made yesterday.

An undercover buy happened in one case and in another, they located heroin inside a house in Butler County.

The first arrest happened in Brighton Heights.

Police arrested 21-year-old Christopher Howard, of the North Side. Undercover detectives met up with him at the Circle K on Brighton Road and purchased heroin with the label "Theraflu."

He tried to get away by pushing a shelf onto an undercover officer. However, they were able to take him into custody.

They later searched his apartment and found five additional bricks of heroin and an assault rifle.

He faces eight separate counts, including possession, possession with intent to deliver, resisting arrest, criminal trespass and escape.

In Butler County, police arrested 41-year-old April Operman, of Zelienople.

Police initially responded to an overdose and questioned the woman who allegedly purchased the heroin from Operman.

According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, police found 18 stamp bags of "Theraflu" heroin in Operman's apartment.
