Search For Suspect Who Shot Woman As She Left Her Home
UNIONTOWN (KDKA/AP) -- Police are searching for a suspect after a young woman was shot while walking out of her home in Fayette County this morning.
It happened just after 9:20 a.m. at a home on Greenpoint Circle, near Laurel Highlands High School in North Union Township.
State police say 22-year-old Shaquasia Sims of Uniontown was wounded in the shoulder.
"Just a little after 9 this morning, we got a call from Fayette County 911 of shots fired. We responded along with the Uniontown City Police Department. We were informed that a 22-year-old female had been shot one time in the shoulder, taken here to Uniontown Hospital, non-life-threatening injuries; she is expected to recover from the injury," said Trooper Stefanie Lucas, of the Pennsylvania State Police. "We have been told that there is a person of interest. She was able to give us some information to indicate that we may have an idea of who the actor is in the case. At this point we're still collecting that information in hopes that she can provide some more and we can identify him."
Police describe the suspect as an African American male, 6-feet-7-inches tall, 250 pounds. He was wearing a tan hat, tan shirt and jeans.
He was driving a white Chevrolet Avalanche with New York plates. The suspect, who police haven't named, is in his 30s.
He may go by the street name of "Whiskey," police said.
Police say he should be considered "armed and dangerous." The investigation continues.
Laurel Highlands High School and R.W. Clark Elementary School were put on lockdown after the shooting, but it has since been lifted.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact State Police in Uniontown or Fayette County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-404-TIPS.
