Doctor killed in Pine Township crash

SEWICKEY (KDKA) -- A UPMC doctor was killed in a one-car crash early Saturday morning in Pine Township.

It happened along Wexford Bayne Road around 12:45 a.m., emergency officials said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identifies the victim as 47-year-old Douglas Rockacy of Wexford. He was pronounced dead just after 1:15 a.m.

UPMC said Rockacy was a dedicated physician at UPMC Mercy Hospital.

On Facebook, Robinson EMS and the Kirwan Heights Fire Department shared his photo. In their message, they said, "May your legacy live on forever."

We are saddened to hear about the tragic passing of Dr. Douglas Rockacy. Our hearts go out to the staff of UPMC Mercy, Doug’s Friends, and to the Rockacy Family. May your legacy live on forever.

Officials have not yet said what caused the crash. It is under investigation.
