1 Suspect Arrested, 1 Sought In Carjacking At Pittsburgh International Airport
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Police have arrested a suspect and recovered a vehicle that was carjacked at Pittsburgh International Airport last week.
"This car is not worth my life," one of the victims of the carjacking said.
The incident happened around 1:15 a.m. at Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday.
The victim, who doesn't want to be identified, was at the airport with a friend to pick up his two uncles who had just gotten home from a trip to Colorado. They were parked at the public arrivals section.
All the victims are from Nepal.
"When I tried to open the back trunk, two actors just came out and showed me a gun," the driver said.
Police say both suspects had guns on them.
"Just asking me [for] the key at gunpoint. I'm like I already have key in the car, just take it," the driver said.
They took off in the car, leaving all four men on the curb.
Mount Oliver Police tracked down the suspect around midnight Tuesday in the 100-block of Ormsby and Walter Streets. They spotted the red Hyundai Santa Fe and conducted a traffic stop.
Police say the vehicle had the wrong license plate on it, and it appears that it was stolen from a vehicle parked in Carrick.
"We would also like to note that where the vehicle was recovered, as well as where the victim had departed from, as well as where the suspect resides, is all within three-mile radius of Carrick area," Lt. Thomas Ianachione, of Allegheny County Police, said.
The juvenile was taken into custody and the car was impounded.
The victim says he has no idea how the two suspects got in his car in the first place. He and his friends were at Doug's Den in Carrick prior to the airport to have a few drinks. He says his car was locked.
"I don't know how they got in my car. It's like too heavy running, and music in my car, also that's why I didn't recognize them," the driver said.
Police are currently looking for a second juvenile involved in this carjacking.
He's described as a white male around 5-feet-5-inches tall and has a thin build. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black jeans. He also allegedly flashed a silver handgun at the time of the incident.
The suspect already in custody is currently in Shuman Center and facing multiple charges.
