1 person killed in multi-vehicle crash on Route 28

EAST DEER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- One person has died after a multi-vehicle crash on Route 28.

According to a media release from Pa. State Police, shortly after 7 a.m., a Dodge Challenger was traveling southbound on Route 28 at a high rate of speed when it attempted to pass a Ford F-350. The driver of the Challenger, identified as Sheena Fitzgerald, impacted the bumper of the F-350 before losing control of the vehicle, traveling off the left side of the road, and crossing into the center median.

Fitzgerald then traveled across the median before hitting a guardrail in the northbound lane and went airborne, striking the hood and front windshield of another driver in a Dodge Dart. Fitzgerald's car was subsequently struck by a fourth driver in a Hyundai Kona who was traveling north.

Fitzgerald was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to state police. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Jonathan Sands, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. He was last listed in stable condition.

The drivers of the Dodge Dart and F-350 did not sustain any injuries.

Crews cleared the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m.
