1 In Custody After Leading Police On Chase

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One person is in custody after leading police on a chase through the North Side and West End Monday night.

According to police, the chase started after an officer saw 32-year-old Howard Morris attempt to burglarize a laundromat in the 500-block of Suismon Street around 10 p.m.

At that time, Morris got into a silver Chevy Cobalt and led police on a chase. Officers were able to successfully deploy a spike strip near the Corliss Tunnels.

With three of his tires affected, Morris brought the vehicle to a stop near Highmark Stadium.

It was later determined that the vehicle was stolen from a car dealer in Bellevue last week.

Two Zone 1 police vehicles suffered minor damage in the chase, but no officers were injured.

Morris was also facing a couple of outstanding warrants.

Police in Ross Township said he stole clothes from the Kohl's on McKnight Road last week. He then, immediately returned them for cash and used his own license in the process.

Also last week, he was accused in an assault and intimidation of a witness in Pittsburgh, which led to another warrant.

Morris is also now facing charges of fleeing police, two counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, attempted burglary, and receiving stolen property
