Man, 21, Shot & Killed In Penn Hills
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –Allegheny County homicide detectives are looking into a deadly shooting in Penn Hills Monday night.
According to police, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 8000-block of Thon Drive.
The victim, Jarome Coker, 21 of Penn Hills was getting out of his car and walking into his house when the suspect came out of nowhere and shot him multiple times.
Neighbor Quentin Brandon, 19, says he heard the gunfire.
"It was just like pow, pow, pow, pow. It kept going continuously," Brandon said. "I heard about 14, 15 shots. It was brand new. I never heard shots on my street. It was different."
Brandon has lived on the street for seven years.
Another neighbor said shootings just don't happen on the street.
When police got to the scene, they said they found Coker's body outside, next to his home.
"Upon further investigation, it appears the victim was shot numerous times. Someone apparently was laying in ambush waiting for him as far as we know at this time," Penn Hills Police Chief Howard Burton said.
Police believe the gunman may have used an assault rifle. They searched everywhere for a suspect, but turned up empty handed.
"The home where he was laying, the back door was open. Our officers checked the area, checked the house, found no one in the area at the time," Chief Burton said.
Neighbors say they didn't know Coker. However, in the year he has lived in the home, they say they have seen a lot of activity there. Police said Coker doesn't have a record with Penn Hills and there is no indication of police being called to the home in the past.
Neighbors just want things to get back to normal.
"It's close to home. I don't like that. It just makes the street hot," Brandon said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Allegheny County Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
