Typhoon Haiyan anniversary
One year ago Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest tropical typhoons ever recorded, struck Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, with devastating consequences Nov 8, 2013. It was the deadliest Philippine typhoon on record, killing at least 6,300 people, affecting more than 16 million people, and forcing up to 4 million people from their homes in the central Philippines. It was the strongest storm on record at landfall and unofficially the strongest typhoon ever recorded in terms of wind speed, packing winds of up to 195 miles an hour. An estimated 475,000 people are still living in unsafe or inadequate makeshift shelters one year after the mighty storm struck.
