Mark Hamill in his signature role of Luke Skywalker. After meeting the legendary Ben Obi Wan Kenobi, Luke goes on to leave his home planet, help rescue Princess Leia and then distinguishes himself as a star pilot fighting for the Rebel Alliance - and all without mussing his hair in any noticeable way. Then again, we're talking about a future Jedi.

For his labors in the original film, Hamill received $650,000, chump change by today's standards but a still respectable amount of money by 1977 standards.
After rebounding from a disfiguring car crash, he returned to stage and film. Hamill also is the voice of joker on Batman: The Animated Series as well as on the animated Batman films.

Carrie Fisher died at age 60 on Dec. 27, 2016.
After shooting to fame in "Star Wars," Fisher battled an addiction to prescription drugs but in later years carved out a successful career as a writer. She returned to her iconic role in "The Force Awakens."
"She was irreplaceable," Mark Hamill said in an interview.
Alec Guinness
Alec Guinness was reintroduced to a new generation of film fans when he appeared as the legendary Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi. Before reprising the role of the supremely wise Jedi knight - which got him nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 1977 - Guinness won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1957 for his role in The Bridge on the River Kwai.
He died in the year 2000 at the age of 86.
Peter Cushing
Peter Cushing in one of his best-known roles, the evil Grand Moff Tarkin. As the governor of the Imperial Outland Regions - not to mention his myriad nefarious responsibilities as commander of the Death Star - his goal was to annihilate the Rebel Alliance. Needless to say, he did not succeed.
But as an actor, Peter Cushing succeeded and then some over the course of a stellar acting career which began in 1939 and lasted almost to his death in 1994 at the age of 81. In recognition of his contributions as an actor, he was made an Officer of the British Empire.

Anthony Daniels (C3PO)

Since Star Wars, Daniels' career has included film and theater stints as well as doing journalism. He has also worked as a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University.
Kenny Baker (R2-D2)
Kenny Baker is a a British actor and musician who worked as the man inside R2-D2. At 3 ft 8 inches, Baker also found a role in the 1983 Return of the Jedi as Paploo, the Ewok. He later pursued a career as a comedian and musician.
In 2005, he went public about friction with co-star Anthony Daniels in an interview with Hollywood.com. "Anthony doesn't mix at all--he keeps himself to himself. He never wants to have a drink with any of us. Once when I said hello to him he just turned his back on me and said, 'Can't you see I'm having a conversation?' I was blazing with rage...It was the rudest thing anyone had ever done to me. I was furious. It was unbelievable."
