New York - Shkreli arrested

Shkreli was taken into custody following a securities probe. A seven-count indictment unsealed in Brooklyn federal court Thursday charged Shkreli with conspiracy to commit securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and securities fraud.
LA schools closed

Earthrise
NASA released this stunning Earthrise image on Dec. 18, 2015, taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).
The composite photo, with the center of Earth just off the coast of Liberia, captures a view of Earth on Oct. 12, from the spacecraft's vantage point in orbit around the moon. The photo evokes the famous 'Blue Marble' image taken 43 years ago during the Apollo 17 mission.

Lake Poopo in Bolivia, the Andean nation's formerly second largest after the famed Titicaca, has dried up entirely. With the water now gone, animals have died off in the millions, according to studies. And the local families, having lost much of their sustenance, have been forced to migrate.

Bei Bei will make his public debut on Jan. 16. During an audience with a small news media contingent Monday, he was so relaxed that he fell asleep and drooled on an examination table. At nearly 4 months old, Bei Bei weighs more than 17 pounds and is gaining about a pound a week. He's bigger than his older siblings were at the same age.

Douma in Syria, an area controlled by rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad, has been shelled continuously for the past three years.
