"Orange is the New Black" actors dish on Season 4
The ladies of Litchfield prison are back for what's expected to be a real, dark and intense fourth season. CBS News caught up with the returning and new cast members at the season four premiere in New York City.
Click through to see what the actors have to say about the newest season, as well as who's who in the cast.
Brad William Henke as C.O. Desi Piscatella
Brad William Henke joins the cast this season as the new maximum-security officer C.O. Desi Piscatella. Here's what he had to say about his character:
"I thought of this character as a coach on a sports team. I was just like the guy in charge and they had to follow my orders. I think the message of this season is every person at the prison needs to be respected and treated like an individual person, and that's the exact opposite of what my character thinks. He thinks they are all prisons and we need to control them."
Annie Golden as Norma Romano
Annie Golden on how she relates to her character Norma:
"I totally relate to her story, but that is Jenji's idea. I am a flower child (like Norma), and it's lovely to have that legacy of being a lover, and a healer, and a nurturer. Norma and I are also similar because of our silence. She doesn't need to talk or be heard, and neither do I. She is secure being the one in the background and I feel that same way."
Alan Aisenberg as C.O. Bayley
Alan Aisenberg on how he is similar to his character:
"I admire Bayley's positivity. He always goes out of his way to find the good in a situation. Which I try to do myself. That positivity is taken away from him this season at some point, but up until that we are very much the same person."
Adrienne Moore as “Black Cindy” Hayes
Adrienne Moore on why she is in many ways like her character "Black Cindy":
"I love her humor and her sort of keep it real approach to everything. I try to do that myself and people probably don't like me all the time, but I keep it real."
Michael Harney as Sam Healy
Michael Harney returns for a fourth season as corrections officer Sam Healy.
"It's like painting for me on this show. I feel like I'm standing in front of a canvas and they are giving me rich colors and material to use. It's a lot like life for me. I try to show up, tell the truth and things start occurring to me. Then we're off to the races."
Lori Petty as Lolly Whitehill
Lori Petty on what she loves about her character Lolly:
"I love that Lolly is really sincere. Like really. When she is like "this place is amazing" and everyone laughs, I'm always like 'It really is amazing!' I kinda just like her direct open heart."
Selenis Leyva as Gloria Mendoza
Selenis Leyva on what she loves about Gloria, and how she is similar to her character:
"I love that Gloria is so fierce. She is a woman with a big heart. She is a woman with compassion and a conscious. She is a mother. I am a mother, so I share the passion that one has for a child and the extremes that one will go to for the protection of their kids. I just think she is a well-rounded, beautiful human being and that there is more than just her tough exterior."
Yael Stone as Lorna Morello
Yael Stone on how she is similar to her character Lorna:
"I'm a little like Lorna in that we are both just trying to do our best. She tries and sometimes fails and it hurts, and I feel that. We can all try our best and do the most, and sometimes it just won't work. Life really can be hard and so I appreciate how she is like, 'On to the next thing.' That's a beautiful quality in her."
Jolene Purdy as Stephanie Hapakuka
Jolene Purdy joins the "Orange is the New Black" cast this season. She talks about where her character fits in with the rest of the inmates:
"This season there is a power struggle between the inmates. Things are happening, and there is a lot of clashing going on. So my character ends up rooming with Piper because you know she wants to rub elbows with the right people, and Piper is the boss."
Laura Gomez - Blanca Flores
The viewers haven't learned much about Blanca Flores up until Season 3. That is going to change in Season 4. Laura Gomez talked about why she loves Blanca, and why we should too:
"My character has grown a lot. I admire her strength and the fact that she is comfortable being just who she is. She doesn't care about outsiders opinions. I think I am similar to her because we both just try to be. We all struggle with just being and being okay in our own skin, so I admire that about her."
