Explosions rock NYC, N.J.
Hours after a pipe bomb exploded in a seaside community in New Jersey, before thousands of runners were to participate in a charity 5K race to benefit Marines and sailors, a bomb rocked the bustling New York City neighborhood of Chelsea Saturday night, September 17, 2016. The chelsea explosion injured 29 people. Investigators are working to piece together evidence in those explosions in New York and New Jersey and the discovery of other explosive devices in the past few days.
On Monday September 19, police took into custody Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, in connection with the Chelsea bombing and two other incidents. Rahmani was identified from surveillance footage near the 23rd street explosion and another undetonated device several blocks away in Manhattan.

Two officers were shot, but not seriously. Rahami was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital.

A massive manhunt was launched and millions of New York City-area residents received cell phone alerts that Rahami was a suspect in the Chelsea bombing. Rahami is a naturalized citizen born in Afghanistan, according to the FBI.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also said an additional 1,000 New York State and National Guard troops will patrol transit stations and airports as a precaution.

Another pressure cooker type explosive device was found on West 27th street, a few blocks away from the West 23rd street explosion.

A massive manhunt was launched and millions of New York City-area residents were alerted directly after police identified a suspect in connection with the Chelsea bombing that injured 29 people.
Search for bombing suspect

Sources told CBS News that Ahmad Khan Rahami is also sought in connection with the bombing in Seaside, New Jersey, as well as five explosive devices found in a backpack near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Elizabeth is Rahami’s hometown.
