Honoring the masters of photography
The stellar winners of the prestigious 13th annual Lucie Awards honoring the masters of photography have been announced for 2015. The masters include George Tice, Roxanne Lowit, David Hume Kennerly, Jerry Uelsmann, Stephanie Sinclair, Barton Silverman, Danny Lyon and Harry Diltz.

2015 honoree, Jerry Uelsmann, was recognized for his Achievement in Fine Arts.

Jerry Uelsmann's work has been exhibited over the last 50 years in more than 100 individual shows worldwide.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and a founding member of the Society for Photographic Education.
Lucie Awards - Stephanie Sinclair
Stephanie Sinclair was honored with the Humanitarian Award.
After initially photographing young Afghan women who had set themselves on fire because they were forced into child marriages, she embarked on the 13-year-long global project -- Too Young to Wed -- focusing on the plight of child brides. Her photography led her to establishing the Too Young to Wed foundation.

"Whenever I saw him, I hid. I hated to see him," Tehani (in pink) recalls of the early days of her marriage to Majed, when she was 6 and he was 25. The young wife posed for a portrait with former classmate Ghada, also a child bride, outside their home in Hajjah, Yemen.

Too Young to Wed - Leyualem, 14, is transported by mule to her new home on her wedding day. The men later said the cloth was placed over her head so she would not be able to find her way back home, should she want to escape the marriage.
Lucie Awards - George Tice
Honoree George Tice, who has worked as a photographer for more than 60 years, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
In his work, Tice has been drawn to vestiges of American culture on the verge of extinction - from people in rural communities to urban and suburban neighborhoods.

Tice, a 10th generation New Jerseyan, has published 18 books to date. His most recent book, "Seldom Seen," is a collection of previously unpublished photographs.

Lucie Awards - Barton Silverman
Barton Silverman was honored for Achievement in Sports. Silverman has had a distinguished career at the top of sports photography for five decades for The New York Times, capturing some of the best moments in sports.

Lucie Awards - David Hume Kennerly
David Hume Kennerly, one of the youngest winners of the Pulitzer Prize in Journalism, is an honoree for his Achievement in Photojournalism.
Kennerly was a contributing photographer for Newsweek for 10 years and is the author of seven books.

Lucie Awards - Danny Lyon
Danny Lyon was honored for his Achievement in Documentary.
In 1963, Lyon began working as a staff photographer for the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). His photos from that time were widely used and considered an important visual record of the civil rights movement.

Lucie Awards - Danny Lyon
All Lyon's films were made with small crews or no crews. Lyon prefers to call his films "realistic" as opposed to "documentaries." Among them are "Dear Mark," "Born to Film" and "Murders."
Lucie Awards - Henry Diltz
Henry Diltz was honored for his Achievement in Music, having taken some of the most iconic photos of our era.
In becoming known as a musician and founding member of Modern Folk Quartet, he immersed himself in the California rock scene of the 60s and 70s. His interest in that world led him to combining his passion for photography with that for music.

Lucie Awards - Henry Diltz
Over the years, Diltz has photographed a long list of album covers including those for The Doors, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Jackson Browne. He was the official photographer for the Woodstock festival.

David Jay was chosen as Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year for his series titled, "The Unknown Soldier" by International Photography Awards (IPA), a sister-effort of the Lucie Foundation.

IPA Award - Maxim Dondyuk
Maxim Dondyuk from the Ukraine is the International Photography Awards (IPA) International Photographer of the Year, a title he shares with American Sandro Miller, for his work -- Euromaidan: a culture of the confrontation.
The IPA is a sister-effort of the Lucie Foundation.
