Donald Trump and women
Republican nominee Donald Trump has stirred a firestorm of controversy and been increasingly scrutinized for his comments about, and treatment of, women.
In early October 2016, a tape emerged of Trump making lewd comments about women and bragging about groping them.
The tape, an outtake from a 2005 appearance on “Access Hollywood,” also caught Trump referring to a “Nancy,” using an expletive to say he had tried and failed to sleep with her. A subsequent report identified “Nancy” as TV personality Nancy O’Dell.
“Politics aside,” O’Dell responded, “I’m saddened that these comments still exist in our society at all.”
"Locker room talk"
In that same tape, Trump told host Billy Bush that because he’s famous he can “grab [women] by the p****” and “can make them do anything.”
The two men were then met by “Days of Our Lives” actress Arianne Zucker, who was asked by Bush to hug Trump.
Trump has since described the language on the tape as “locker room talk.”
Jessica Leeds
On the heels of the “Access Hollywood” tape reveal, Donald Trump stated during the second presidential debate that he had never actually done the things he talked about. Since then several women have come forward with allegations. Two women told of their experiences with Trump in a New York Times story published October 12, 2016.
Jessica Leeds, now 74, said she was groped by Trump in the first-class cabin of a flight to New York more than three decades ago. “He was like an octopus,” she said. “His hands were everywhere.”
In that same story, Rachel Crooks said she was “inappropriately” kissed by Trump in 2005 when she was a 22-year-old receptionist working in Trump Tower in New York City. “It felt like a violation,” Crooks said.
Trump denied the allegations and threatened to sue the paper.
Donald Trump
The same day The New York Times story came out, People magazine published a firsthand account by reporter Natasha Stoynoff of Trump “pushing me against the wall, and forcing his tongue down my throat” during a 2005 interview session at his Mar-a-Lago home.
Trump has denied the account stating, “She lies! Look at her, I don’t think so.” His wife, Melania, threatened to sue the magazine while also demanding a retraction and apology.
In addition, a 1992 “Entertainment Tonight” video surfaced, showing Trump, then 46 years old, looking at a group of young girls and remarking that he would be dating one of them in ten years.
Tasha Dixon
The former 2001 Miss Arizona, Tasha Dixon, confirmed to CBS’ Los Angeles station that Trump walked into pageant dressing rooms unannounced while her fellow contestants were “half naked.”
Dixon also said, women would “have the pressure of the people that worked for him telling us to go fawn all over him, go walk up to him, talk to him, get his attention.”
Trump campaign spokesperson Jessica Ditto said the story was baseless.
Karena Virginia
Karena Virginia, a yoga instructor and life coach, said she encountered Trump after the U.S. Open in Queens, New York in 1998, while waiting for a car. She overheard Trump discussing her legs then he walked up to her, grabbed her arm and touched her breast. When she flinched, Trump responded by demanding, “Don’t you know who I am? Don’t you know who I am?” “I felt intimidated, and I felt powerless,” Virginia said. “I felt ashamed that I was wearing a short dress and high heels.”
Virginia, right, made the statement on Oct. 20, 2016, accompanied by lawyer Gloria Allred (L), and is the 10th woman to speak out since the “Access Hollywood” tape came to light.
Kristin Anderson
The Washington Post reported on Oct. 14, 2016 that back in the early 1990s, when Kristin Anderson was an aspiring model, Trump put his hand up her skirt at a Manhattan nightclub. According to Anderson, she had never met Trump before.
The Trump campaign has labeled Anderson’s story a “complete fabrication” and that it is “illogical and nonsensical” to think Trump could have done it without being noticed or recognized in the nightclub.
Summer Zervos
Summer Zervos, right, a former contestant on “The Apprentice,” accused Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of unwanted sexual contact. Sitting alongside her attorney, Gloria Allred, at a news conference October 14, 2016, she said Trump kissed and groped her at a Beverly Hills hotel in 2007.
After appearing on Trump’s reality tv show, she contacted him to ask for a job. Trump later invited her to dinner, and when she met him at his hotel, Zervos said, Trump almost immediately began kissing her and placed his hand on her breasts.
More than 20 former crew members, editors and contestants on Trump’s “Apprentice” reality show described a pattern of crass behavior and demeaning comments on the set. Trump repeatedly addressed women with sexist language, rated female contestants by the size of their breasts and talked about which ones he’d like to have sex with, the people told The Associated Press.
Melinda McGillivray
Melinda McGillivray, 36, of Palm Springs, Florida told The Palm Beach Post she was standing with a group of people after a Ray Charles concert when Donald Trump came up behind her and grabbed her buttocks.
Katherine Walker
Katherine Walker, a former producer for “The Apprentice,” has said Trump frequently talked about women’s bodies during the five seasons she worked with him on the show, and that he speculated about which female contestant would be “a tiger in bed.”
Ivanka Trump
Audio of lewd conversations from the Howard Stern radio show have emerged.
“By the way, your daughter,” Stern says in one of the recordings first uncovered by CNN.
“She’s beautiful,” Trump responds.
“Can I say this? A piece of a**,” Stern asks.
“Yeah,” Trump says.
Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, liked a tweet linking to an article about the Republican nominee for president telling Stern in 2004 it is OK to call her a “piece of a**.” The tweet has since been un-liked.
Ivanka Trump
Ivanka, is a top executive in the Trump Organization and by all accounts an influential voice behind the scenes in his campaign. Asked about her father’s attitudes towards women in a July 2016 interview in the Sunday Times of London, she said, “My father is a feminist. ... He’s surrounded me with strong female role models who have done just that since I was a little girl.” She said it was a tremendous influence on the woman she is today.
Alicia Machado
The 1996 Miss Universe, Alicia Machado, has said she felt publicly shamed by Donald Trump after she gained weight; the GOP nominee had called her, among other things, “Miss Piggy,” she said.
After Hillary Clinton mentioned Machado in the first presidential debate, the beauty queen repeated her story to CNN.
The interview spurred a flurry of Twitter insults from Trump.
Trump: Machado "disgusting"
Trump fired off a trio of tweets personally attacking Machado.
In one, Trump called Machado “disgusting” and a “con.” Trump also urged his 12 million Twitter followers to look into a “sex tape,” which has yet to surface.
Jennie Finch
Trump’s campaign has issued a general denial of any inappropriate behavior on the “Apprentice” set. Some former contestants have echoed that assertion.
“He was extremely supportive,” former contestant and U.S. softball star Jennie Finch told the Associated Press. “Obviously, he was complimentary, but never in an inappropriate way.”
Omarosa Manigault
Since her appearance on “The Apprentice” in 2004, Omarosa Manigault has spoken out as a staunch Trump defender.
“Yes, he’s said things off-the-cuff, but to take them and use them and try to apply them to all women, just because he doesn’t like Rosie O’Donnell, doesn’t mean he hates all women,” she has said. “It’s ridiculous to paint with such a broad brush. He does not have a woman problem.”
Rowanne Brewer Lane, Donald Trump
Rowanne Brewer Lane was featured in a New York Times article about Trump’s treatment of women. The article began, “Donald J. Trump had barely met Rowanne Brewer Lane when he asked her to change out of her clothes.” He also commented poolside, “That is a stunning Trump girl, isn’t it?”

Brewer Lane: Not so fast
Brewer Lane later objected to the way the relationship was characterized by the Times, telling CBS News that she didn’t feel she was treated in a demeaning way, and she found the article “infuriating.” She said she “had nothing negative to say” about Trump.
Angelina Jolie
Trump slammed Angelina Jolie during an interview with Larry King on CNN.
“She’s been with so many guys she makes me look like a baby,” Trump said. “I just don’t even find her attractive.”
Heidi Klum
In 2015, Trump said of model Heidi Klum, “I looked at her the other day, and it’s off.”
Elaborating later to the New York Times, he said, “Sadly, she’s no longer a 10.”
Klum: "I had a good run"
Klum fired back by posting a video to Twitter showing her wearing a T-shirt that said “9.99,” along with the hashtags: #TrumpHasSpoken #sadly #9.99 #NoLongerA10 #IHadAGoodRun #donaldtrump #HeidiTrumpsTrump #BeautyIsInTheEyeOfTheBeheld.
Carrie Prejean
Also in the New York Times, former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean went into detail about Trump’s inspection of pageant contestants. She described it as an exercise in dividing women into “those he found attractive and those he did not.”
Prejean: "Some girls were sobbing"
She said, “Some of the girls were sobbing backstage after he left, devastated to have failed even before the competition really began to impress ‘The Donald’.”
Trump, the Miss USA pageant owner, let Prejean keep her title despite controversy over semi-nude photos and charges by state pageant officials that she had abandoned some of her duties.
Megyn Kelly
In August 2015, Megyn Kelly of Fox News took on Donald Trump as one of the moderators of the first GOP debate of the 2016 election. She said, “You’ve called women you don’t like ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals’.”
Kelly: Social media storm
In response, Trump said to CNN’s Don Lemon, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” The comment set off a social media storm; most people interpreted the comment as referring to menstruation.
Bette Midler
In October 2012, Trump tweeted: “While @BetteMidler is an extremely unattractive woman, I refuse to say that because I always insist on being politically correct.”
Another tweet: “@BetteMidler talks about my hair but I’m not allowed to talk about her ugly face or body --- so I won’t. Is this a double standard?”
Midler: Firing back
In a May 15, 2016 retort, Midler questioned why Trump hasn’t been banned from Twitter for his racist and sexist remarks.
Rosie O'Donnell
The Donald Trump-Rosie O’Donnell feud goes back to 2006.
O’Donnell, then co-host of “The View,” called him a “snake-oil salesman on ‘Little House on the Prairie’,” and reflected on his marriages, saying he set a poor moral standard.
O'Donnell: A "loser"?
Trump responded with, “Rosie’s a loser. A real loser. I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice, fat little Rosie.”
Barbara Res
Barbara Res was Trump’s head of construction in the 1980s. She was quoted in the New York Times article as saying that Trump told her, “You like your candy,” adding, “It was him reminding me that I was overweight.”
Res also related a story about one meeting where Trump insisted an attractive woman take the lunch orders, an instance that showed “he wanted the people in that room to think that all the women who worked for him were beautiful.”
Heidi Cruz
In March 2016, Trump tweeted: “Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used an image of Melania from a GQ shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”
Trump followed up his initial comment by retweeting an unflattering photo comparing Heidi Cruz with his wife, Melania, stating, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Princess Diana
BuzzFeed unearthed transcripts of interviews Trump gave radio host Howard Stern. In 2000, Trump described Britain’s Princess Diana as “a great beauty” and commented “she was crazy, but these are minor details.”
In a previous 1997 interview, Stern asked Trump, “You could have gotten her, right? You could have nailed her?” Trump stated, “I think I could have.”
Diana: Bombarded with flowers
It was reported in the same story that a friend of Diana, Selina Scott, said the princess felt stalked after her divorce from Prince Charles; Trump “bombarded Diana at Kensington Palace with massive bouquets of flowers.”
Trump denied the wooing rumors as “totally false” in an ITV interview.
Hillary Clinton
In a tweet that Trump later deleted, he wrote on April 16, 2016: “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?”
In December 2015, Trump said Clinton “got schlonged” by President Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential primaries. In doing so, he turned the Yiddish word for penis into a verb. According to CNN, Yiddish scholars were shocked by the word’s use in a “filthy” context.
Clinton: Condemned for "shouting"
Trump condemned Clinton for “shouting” during her appeal to female voters. In an MSNBC interview, he acknowledged that he was using gendered terms when referencing Clinton’s decibel level.
Trump has also criticized her credentials for president by saying, “Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she’s got going is the women’s card.” The Republican candidate followed that remark up by calling Clinton an “enabler” of her husband’s infidelity.
Carly Fiorina
Trump was quoted in a Rolling Stone profile reacting to former HP CEO Carly Fiorina on TV: “Look at that face!” He added: “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!”
Ivana Trump
Ivana Trump worked for the Trump Organization after they were married. She was president of Trump’s Castle casino resort and the Plaza Hotel. According to the New York Times, she was only paid an annual salary of $1. He wrote in his book “The Art of the Comeback” that he regretted taking Ivana out of the role of being his wife and making her a businesswoman, because business then dominated their personal lives as well.
Ivana has praised her ex-husband, telling the New York Post that his trust in her business skills was proof of his respect for women. She said, “He loves women. But not a feminist.”
When she filed for divorce from Trump, instigated by his affair with Marla Maples, she stated in a deposition that her husband had raped her. However, she later said that “it was all the lawyers,” adding, “I was never abused.”
Marla Maples
It was Donald Trump’s affair with Marla Maples that led to his divorce from Ivana Trump. The couple married in 1993 and divorced six years later in 1999.
In 2013, on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” Maples stated, “I still love Donald.”
It was Trump’s relationship with Maples that also provided fodder for recently resurfaced allegations that Trump posed as his own public relations rep in interviews with various publications. In a 1991 phone interview with People magazine reporter Sue Carswell, a recording of which was released in May 2016, a rep who identified himself as “John Miller” explained why Trump had left Maples for Italian singer-model Carla Bruni.
In the interview, “Miller” bragged that Trump was constantly pursued by famous women and that “he’s living with Marla and he’s got three other girlfriends.”
According to Carswell, Trump later apologized for the ruse, saying it was a “joke gone awry,” though he currently denies he ever posed as his own rep.
Carla Bruni
In the recording of the phone conversation, “Miller” -- whose tone, cadence and style of speaking are all remarkably Trump-like -- gave intimate details of Trump’s encounters with celebrities like Italian singer and model Carla Bruni and pop star Madonna.
Of stories that Trump dated Bruni, the woman now married to former French President Nicolas Sarkozy told London’s Daily Mail, “Trump is obviously a lunatic.” She stated Trump dreamed up the match for publicity sake. “It’s so untrue and I’m deeply embarrassed by it all.”
Madonna
In a People magazine phone interview, purported Trump spokesman John Miller said that Madonna had called Trump saying she wanted to go out with him.
