David Wilson and Robert Compton in 2004 and again in 2014. Originally married to women, Wilson and Compton both had children from their previous marriages and met each other through a support group called Gay Fathers of Greater Boston. “We exchanged cards and started having lunch and dinner and from there, the rest is history,” Wilson says. They went on to sue the state for the right to marry in Goodridge v. Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and won.
