Zach Braff Returns To Filmmaking in 'Wish I Was Here'
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - It's been about ten years since the last time Zach Braff took on the combined role of actor, writer and director of a film.
Braff's critically acclaimed "Garden State" was nominated for Best First Screenplay and won Best First Feature at the Independent Spirit Awards. The film's soundtrack won a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media with Braff credited as compilation producer.
As a filmmaker, Braff returns with his new film "Wish I Was Here" starring himself, Kate Hudson, Josh Gad, Ashley Green, Joey King and Mandy Patinkin.
Braff plays 35 year-old "Aidan Bloom," a struggling actor and father trying to bring up two kids. When the kids funding for their private school runs out, Aidan is forced to home school them. With his limited education, he ends up teaching his kids about life and also learns something about himself along the way.
Zach Braff sat down with CBS Local as he was promoting his film and discussed how crowd-funding the movie benefited him as a filmmaker and what he looks forward to with his career. Braff says "I hope to make more movies that have my style. I don't want to be someone who just cranks out a movie that anyone could have directed."
