PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An 11 year-old girl is dead after she was shot in the shoulder Saturday morning in her Mantua home by her two-year-old sibling.
Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker says the shooting happened just before 10 a.m. at the home located on the 800 block of Wallace Street.
He says four children -- a 14-year-old, 11-year-old, seven-year-old and a two-year old -- were at home together. When their mother left the room, investigators say the two year-old got hold of a loaded gun left in a bedroom by the mother's male friend.
"The gun discharges and somehow strikes the 11-year-old female," Walker says.
According to police, the mother and her children were all in the master bedroom when the two-year-old got hold of the gun.
"She was a good girl," one neighbor said about the victim, identified by neighbors as Jamera.
Police say the girl was shot in the arm and the bullet entered her chest. The mother and authorities rushed her to Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia, but she died about half-an-hour later.
Homicide investigators are investigating the case. Once they finish up, it will be up to the District Attorney to decide if charges will be filed.
