WMOF Mural Could Make History

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The World Meeting of Families is hoping to appear in the Guinness Book of World Records by the end of the week.

It has been months in the making and many hands have played a part in finishing a special mural commemorating the visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia.

Artist Cesar Viveros, who was commissioned by the Philadelphia Mural Arts program, is supervising the painting of his work – broken into panels which are being placed on the walls of St. Malachy School. Viveros is recruiting participants in the World Meeting congress at the Pennsylvania Convention Center to put a paint brush to work and help him surpass 2,500 people contributing to the mural.

 

"We are trying to finish the one-third of the wall right here at the Convention Center," he says. "Hopefully, people will come through the station that we have and paint by number, very simple. And as they register, we have the record and we will do it."

Viveros even convinced a group of pilgrims from Uruguay who just arrived to help set the record.
