With Comcast Move, TV 10 Will Trade One Iconic Building For Another

BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (CBS) -- The announcement that Comcast intends to move television station WCAU into its planned center city tech center (see related story) means the TV station will be leaving decades of broadcast history behind on City Avenue.

 

 

 

Longtime announcer and host Gene Crane, who worked in that building from 1952 to 2004, has fond memories of the children's programs and talk shows originating from the WCAU building at City Avenue and Monument Road.

Crane recalls a live CBS western, called "Action in the Afternoon," that was shot right outside the building in the early '50s.

"I remember we had a kitchen show -- a cooking show," he said today.  "And of course they had a whole mess of horses outside of the studio.  And the flies from the stables would get into our kitchen, and it was a great... bother!" he said with a chuckle.

In the 1960s, the building was also home to the Gene London and Pixanne children's shows, and legendary news anchor John Facenda.
