Wildcats Don't Mind Being Second Seed

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Many Villanova fans were hoping the Wildcats would be a number one seed, but the Cats are more than happy to be a two seed.

The Wildcats will be the second seed in the East Region and will play in Buffalo on Thursday.  Their opponents will be Milwaukee, the Horizon Conference Champions.  Virginia will be the number one seed in the east, but Jay Wight says there is little difference between the first and second seed
.
"I really never worry about that," said Wright.  "We're happy to be in it, happy to have a high seed.  Now, you have to play good basketball."

Three of the top seeds went to Wichita State, Florida and Arizona.  The final number one seed went to Virginia, and players such as Darrun Hilliard believe the Cavaliers earned the top seed by winning the ACC.

"Getting a number one seed would have been nice," Hilliard said.  "Virginia deserved it.  They did good in their conference tournament.  We deserved a number two seed.  We're happy with that, and we're just ready to play."

The Wildcats will now turn their attention to Milwaukee.  The Panthers won the Horizon League Tournament and finished with a record of 21-13.

"They're a physical team," said Wright.  "And from what a saw of them, they're a very high scoring team.  They're going to be a tough, Midwestern team.  If you're good in those leagues, you're usually a pretty experienced team."

A win over Milwaukee would mean the Wildcats would play the winner of the game between St. Joseph's and UConn.  Big 5 fans are no doubt dreaming about a Holy War rematch between the Wildcats and Hawks, but Guard Ryan Arcidiacono says the players aren't looking too far ahead.

"It's pretty crazy to think about it," Arcidiacono said.  "Like I said before, we're going to have to take it one game at a time.  We don't know anything about Milwaukee yet.  It would be cool if we played each other, but we're taking it one game at a time."
