Why Does Jersey Shore Water Look Almost As Clear As Caribbean Sea?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you have been to the Jersey Shore lately, you may have noticed the water is now a shade of light blue.
In fact, the Atlantic Ocean looks almost as clear as the Caribbean Sea.
This is because of tiny plant-like organisms called phytoplankton.
A NASA satellite captured the phenomenon.
Officials say cool ocean water is fueling the bloom.
The phytoplankton is often harmless and an important food source for marine life, experts say.
