Wet Weather Heading Our Way

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's not shaping up to be the nicest week across the Delaware Valley. A classic nor'easter will make for a messy midweek. Clouds are beginning increasing, and even some light rain and snow showers are falling along the New Jersey and Delaware shores this morning. Any flakes will change to droplets as the morning progresses, but this is just the beginning. This storm will work it's way up the coast overnight, and rain will move in starting tomorrow morning. Tuesday is strictly a rain event, with mixed precipitation only expected far to the north and west. Rain could be heavy at times; this is going to be a soaker of a storm. Rainfall totals could be anywhere from 1-3." Down at the shore, coastal flooding and wind will be the big issues.

A coastal flood watch is in effect for Tuesday.

As this storm approaches the area, it will begin to slow down. An area of high pressure to the north will block the progression of this storm. Because of that, colder air will have a chance to take over starting Tuesday night, and remaining areas of precipitation that will spin down around the low may change over to snow. Any accumulation on with this system is only a concern up in the Poconos region; a Winter Storm Warning is in effect Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning for Carbon and Monroe counties, where 4-8" of snow could fall. Other areas further south may see some brief mixing take place, but accumulation is not a big concern at this time.

The storm will be sluggish getting out of here, but will eventually do so. Other than an early rain or snow shower, Thursday will be dry. Weather will continue to improve into Friday, still with some leftover clouds. Saturday and Sunday are looking to be the nicest days of the next seven, with a mix of sun and clouds and milder temperatures.
