Weather: From Record High Temperatures To Snow?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- From 80 degree temperatures to snow?
As much as I loathe to trot out the four-letter "S" word so early in the season, there you have it. Keep in mind, the vast, vast majority of our region will not see any snow this week. But for spots from the Poconos into Northern New Jersey, a few flakes are in the forecast, and it will be a very jarring sight coming on the heels of a week of near-record temperatures.
The pattern this week is a complete reversal of last week. We are tapping into cold Canadian air which is headed our way via a brisk northwest wind, keeping daytime highs nearly ten degrees below average Tuesday through Thursday. Overnight lows on Tuesday night will dip into the 30's, with many parts of our coldest suburbs going below freezing, and a Freeze Watch has already been issued.

Again on Wednesday night, temperatures will dip into the 30's, and in the Poconos, even into the 20's. Herein lies the problem. A system will be pushing into the northeast on Thursday and it's now looking as though it may arrive Thursday morning. Most parts of our area will not see any precipitation until temperatures rise above freezing, or temps will stay above freezing all night, meaning no concern for wintry precipitation.
But in places like the Poconos and far north New Jersey, precipitation may begin when temperatures are still below freezing, leading to the chance for a wintry mix early Thursday before a transition to plain rain by midday.
So while you'll have to take a decent drive north to spot any white stuff this week, it's a clear indication that the pattern is changing and it's almost time to break out the winter gear for good!
