Weather: Flash Flood Watch Continues Until Midnight For Extreme Southern New Jersey And Delaware

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Flash Flood Watch continues until midnight for extreme southern New Jersey and Delaware. Downpours this morning dumped over 4" of rain which caused flooding in parts of Cape May County. Streets in Ocean City were reported to have water 2 to 3 feet high threatening the entrances of some businesses and homes. Additional heavy rain was falling this evening in southern NJ and before the day is over, some parts of region may end up receiving close to 5".
Meanwhile, there are more scattered showers and storms over central Pennsylvania but these should diminish later tonight as they slowly advance east. The culprit for the recent storms and localized heavy rain has been a stalled front lingering over the Delaware Valley since Tuesday. As high pressure slides east tomorrow, we expect lower humidity and just a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm. By Saturday, the high has full control and we are forecasting a mostly sunny day with seasonable temperatures.
Afternoon thunderstorms and higher humidity return on Sunday as an area of low pressure pushes in from the west. The beginning of next week will remain hot and sticky with thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday. However, the end of next week looks great with sunshine and noticeably cooler temperatures.
