Weather: Cold Pattern Continues

By Justin Drabick

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The calendar say Spring but it does not feel like it, as a persistent winter-like pattern continues.  This morning, we woke up with temperatures in the 20s, about 10 degrees below average.  Even with full sunshine today, high temperatures struggled to make it into the lower 40s.  The average high temperature for today is 55 degrees.

A clipper system over the Midwest today will track eastward tonight and weaken.  Clouds will be on the increase tonight along with the cold air mass remaining in place.  Once again, winter gear will be needed tonight as temperatures drop into the 20s.  The chilly air mass will remain in place on Tuesday with highs temperatures still about 10 degrees below average in the mid 40s.

Some changes are on the way for Wednesday as a warm front approaches the Delaware Valley.  Expect some more clouds with a few showers possible, as the front moves through.  High temperatures will climb closer to average in the low 50s.  Thursday will be the warmest day of the week as southerly winds bring in a warm air mass ahead of a cold front.  There will be showers around at times with a possible thunderstorm and highs in the mid to upper 60s.

Don't get used to the warmth as the cold front will bring in another cold air mass for the end of the week into the weekend.  Skies will clear out a bit on Friday with highs back near average in the mid 50s.  The cold air will then settle in for the weekend with partly sunny skies and highs back below average in the 40s.
