Wagner: State Leadership At Fault For Corbett Loss

By Chris Stigall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Republican State Senator of Pennsylvania's 28th District, Scott Wagner talked with WPHT's Chris Stigall about who's to blame for Tom Corbett losing his bid for reelection and what he wants to do about it.

"I think that house leadership had something to do with Corbett's defeat. If Tom Corbett was a product, he was launched in a way that I wouldn't have launched a product." Wagner is pushing for a change in Senate leadership, namely electing Senator Jake Corman as Senate Majority Leader.

While he couldn't comment on how many of the 30 Republicans in the Senate support acting Majority Leader, Dominic Pileggi, he did imply a lack of leadership in Harrisburg.

"I'm evaluating the slate that has been proposed for the new leadership…and I'm working through that process. I'm looking for someone who's going to lead. The word 'Senate Majority Leader'-leader is a very big term, it means to lead, you know strategy, vision, pulling people together as a team. That's what I looking for in Senator Corman. "

Wagner refuses to let the impending backlash that he is expecting for voting against the Pileggi, affect him. "If you allow (getting frozen out by leadership) to happen, then that's going to happen but, I can tell you that I'm not going to allow that to happen because I'm going to continue to be at the table and ask questions and represent my district. "

Wagner expects the private vote to happen later this week.
