Volunteers Spend Day Sewing, Knitting Blankets For Good Cause

VOORHEES, N.J. (CBS) - Dozens of volunteers turned out for "make a blanket" day at the Kennedy Center in Voorhees, New Jersey Saturday morning.
Tables were covered in fleece and yarn as part of the sewing circle to benefit Project Linus.
"Project Linus is a charity that provides blankets for comfort for children who have been traumatized, who are sick, or in otherwise in need of a hug. We call our blankets 'hugs'," Chapter president Marianne McCarthy tells KYW Newsradio.
McCarthy says a child feels the love when he wraps himself in a blanket made by a volunteer. One of those volunteers is Dawn Marie:
"To know someone is getting some love back to them that might need it makes me feel good," she said.
Tanya McKeown, with the Kennedy Center, says this is the 8th annual event, and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger:
"Last year we had about 600. We're probably be close to 900 or 1000 this year."
Most of the blankets will go to children in South Jersey. Others are sent in disaster relief packages.
