Deal Reached To Avert Holiday Weekend Strike At 4 AC Casinos
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - Four Atlantic City casinos where hospitality workers threatened to walk off the job tomorrow have reached deals with the union.
That leaves one property where a strike is thought to be imminent.
Trump Taj Mahal has not come to terms with Local 54 Unite Here. That's the union representing bartenders, porters, and hotel housekeepers at Atlantic City's casino resorts.
Nine-hundred fifty work at the Taj. Their health care and pensions were lost in a ruling by a bankruptcy judge.
Local 54 wants those benefits restored. A spokeswoman says they'll talk with the Taj as long into the morning as is possible to try to avoid a holiday weekend walkout.
That's what they were able to do at Tropicana, along with Caesars, Bally's, and Harrah's, for about 5000 workers. The terms of the deals aren't clear, but the union has said it's well past due for a wage increase -- it wanted $3/hour more, phased in over five years.
